Delete your account and data

Waddili Salami has two kinds of account — a pilgrim performing Umrah or Haj, and someone at home following a pilgrim's journey. Either can be deleted from inside the app, and deletion is permanent.

There is no phone number and no password on any account here. An account is an anonymous identity held on your own device, plus the display name you typed. That is why deletion is done from inside the app, where the device proves who you are — there is no credential for a web form to check.

A pilgrim may have chosen to attach an optional recovery email address, so that they have a second way back into their own journey if they lose their phone. That changes nothing here: it is a way into the app, not a way to prove who you are to us, and we do not treat a message arriving from it as proof of anything. Deleting from inside the app removes it along with everything else.

Delete a pilgrim account

  • Open the app and go to Your Circle.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
  • Read the confirmation and tap Delete.

The app shows you exactly this before it asks you to confirm, along with the option to keep the account instead — keeping it costs nothing.

This deletes, permanently and immediately:

  • Your display name and your journey progress.
  • Your invite link, so it stops working for everyone.
  • Everyone following your journey — their membership of your circle, and every dua and salaams request they sent you, including ones you already recited.
  • Your own anonymous sign-in identity.
  • Your recovery code. It cannot restore a deleted account.

People who were following you are told that the journey has ended, and they keep nothing of yours. Their own accounts are not deleted — closing your account does not close theirs. They can follow a different pilgrim with the same account, or delete it themselves from the screen they land on.

Delete a follower account

  • Open the app on the home screen (the one showing the pilgrim's progress).
  • Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
  • Tap Delete Account.
  • Read the confirmation and tap Delete.

As with the pilgrim's, the app spells this out and offers to keep the account instead before it asks you to confirm.

This deletes, permanently and immediately:

  • Your display name and your membership of the pilgrim's circle.
  • Every dua and salaams request you sent — including ones the pilgrim has already recited. Those requests disappear from the pilgrim's history as well as yours, and they are not told which requests went.
  • Your anonymous sign-in identity.

The pilgrim's own account is untouched. If you want to follow them again afterwards, ask them for their invite link and join as a new follower.

If your pilgrim deletes their account, yours stays. You lose access to their journey and the requests you sent them go with it, but your own account remains — so you can follow someone else, or delete it yourself from the screen the app takes you to.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Nothing of yours is kept. There is no tombstone, no archived copy and no anonymised record — the rows are removed from the database.
  • Crash and error diagnostics already sent to our error-reporting provider are not linked to your account and cannot be traced back to it, so they are not part of this deletion. They are retained for up to 90 days and then expire.
  • Notification delivery records held by Google's push service are outside our database and expire on their own schedule. Your device notification token is deleted with your account, so nothing further can be sent to you.
  • Short-lived abuse-prevention counters (used to limit repeated attempts) hold no name or note and are discarded within a day.

If you cannot use the app

If your phone is lost, the app will not open, or you have already uninstalled it, email us and we will delete the account by hand:

[email protected]

Tell us whether you were the pilgrim or a follower, and the display name you used. If you were a pilgrim and still have your invite link or recovery code, include it — it is what lets us find the right account. We reply within 30 days and confirm once the deletion is done.

This page is not a self-service deletion form. Because there is no password on an account — and because an optional recovery address is a way back into the app rather than a way to prove who you are to us — a form on the web could not tell you apart from someone else claiming to be you. So a request by email is checked by a person before anything is deleted.
